Why are all the #5 cards in the Tarot harsh?

Updated: Jan 11, 2021

Because living in the world can be harsh, the 5's represent severe life experience one may find themselves in during this lifetime or perhaps in past lives. Severity reveals the contrast between what we want and what we don't want. On the Tree of Life, severity is Gevurah, the red sphere and fifth point on the Divine Lightning Flash. This is where "flow" from Chesed stops and the adept learns limits & boundaries.

The ruling planet is the red planet, Mars. Known to the greeks as Ares, he is the god of War. Located on the Pillar of Severity, the warrior god of Gevurah is represented by The Tower card. I call him, "The Enforcer" because he says NO to teach you how to say no, capiche? When life does not go according to your plan, expect to see one of these cards in your reading. If revealed early in a spread, wait till all cards are revealed in their respective positions before you worry. All are meant to teach. Harsh does not necessarily mean harm. If received in the spirit of learning a life lesson, the 5's can be handled with grace & humility. After all, we need limits & boundaries in order to set limits & boundaries. The polarity/duality of opposites exist everywhere. To know oneself, one has to recognize the other. Contrast in life gives you the mental tool necessary to distinguish one from the other. After being hurt, for example, one learns from the experience and develops coping skills as a result. Careful not to let the pendulum of Pe(h) knock you around from one extreme to another. You make the choice to react (out of control) OR, to respond (practice self-control.)
